YOUTH MUSIC - SINGING CHALLENGE

A new project with youth groups based in Milnthorpe and Arnside, and Beetham Primary School.

Music/singing group WAVE consists of:

SHAUN BLEZARD

Shaun has been playing bass in local bands for nearly 20 years, including The Clementines, Striding Edge and Rusty Gate. He has been a computer-based musician for a number of years and has written music for theatre, dance, film and art installations. He has released CD's and been playing live under the guise of manassas since 2001. Shaun has been working as a community musician and audio visual artist for a number of years and is currently co-running Youth Music project Music Factory at Forum 28, is a project leader for the Sonic Arts Network

ALI RIGG

As well as performing as a solo artist Ali has been choirmaster at Welfare State International, running Lanternhouse voices, for a number of years. She has also performed in WSI shows for over 17 years, including the company's last show Bare Bones. Ali has been active in the community running singing and song writing workshops throughout the country for over 10 years. She has delivered workshops for amongst others Whitewood & Fleming, The Ashton Group, Barrow Borough Council and The Sage Gateshead.

ANN WILSON

Ann Wilson is a performance poet from Barrow-in-Furness. She is a popular MC and performer for various festivals, live music and literature events in Cumbria . Ann has also performed at various stand-up comedy and spoken word venues throughout the UK including Glastonbury Poetry and Words Tent, Edinburgh Festival and Solfest. Ann enjoys working in schools and in collaboration with other artists. She recently worked in Lowick School with sonic musician Shaun Blezard on a poetry CD "The Special Bubble" and with puppeteer Liz Mayes on an anti- bullying project for the NSPCC called "When Tina was Meaner". Ann graduated from The University of Glamorgan in 1998. Since then she’s been an actress, bingo caller and arts projects co-ordinator. She is currently teaching BTEC Performing Arts at Furness College

JODI WATSON

Since graduating from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2000 with an honours degree in Theatre Practice, Jodi has worked within many communities in the U.K. enhancing moments of celebration through performance and arts events.

As an organiser she has been the Production Manager on many a Lantern Festival working for Welfare State International, the Liverpool Lantern Company and Theatre of Adventure.

As a performer alongside Ali Rigg she offers a GLINT in time; a female singing duo who arrange, compose and perform particular melodies for personalised ceremonies.

As a maker she has built and painted performance sets and props for indoor and outdoor theatre.

Having recently moved to the Lakes she sees Heron Song as good opportunity to unite her passions for music, performance and the environment by experimenting, making playing and performing instruments made from low tech recycled materials.
